“ Online auction house offering a range of kitchen & home products, computers, phones, and entertainment products. „
The Comet Clearance site is a place where Comet sells off all of its returned items, end off line stock and ex-display models. You can pick up all sorts on here - washing machines, dishwashers, laptops, cookers, televisions - but instead of paying the recommended retail price, you will be able to bid in an auction and the highest bidder will wins the product.
I've got to say, I'm a little shocked by all the negative Dooyoo express reviews about the Comet Clearance website... Personally I've had no problems with it and two of my friends have also used the site and they have nothing but praise for the service. However I do think you need to do your homework before you jump in and start bidding!
Four months ago I purchased my first ever cooker and I've got to say - it was a bit of a minefield. Through conducting my own research I discovered what "FSD compliant," "LSD gas" and other alien terms meant, but if I hadn't of done that then I may have ended up with a product that I couldn't use and couldn't return, so you need to make sure that the item you are considering bidding on meets your specification. I'd advise that you browse around and read as much as you can about the item on offer before you put a bid in.
I have read the terms and conditions of the auction site and if you win a product you can only retract your bid in "extraordinary circumstances," also, you can't just return your item if you decide you don't want it anymore - there has to be fault which the Comet team will have to confirm before a refund is given. For these reasons I think that you need to be 100% sure that you want an item before you get carried away bidding.
Each auction item comes with a set of notes that tell you the condition of the product (if it's new, a display model, or an item that has been returned). Personally I would probably refrain from buying a TV that has been used as a display model on the Comet auction website because it has probably spent many hours on in-store, but with items like cookers and washing machines you know that they won't have actually been used before.
I think that the auction notes are very thorough - I purchased a cooker from the site and I was told there was a two inch scratch on the back of it - the scratch did indeed measure at 2 inches.
There are bargains to be had on this site. I picked up a cooker, which should have been around £300 for £171. One of my friends also managed to bag a washer that retails at £350 for £135. So if you're just starting out or you don't have loads of money to spend on your major appliances then this site is a very useful resource.
Once you've won an auction you have to pay within 24 hours and you will also have to pay a delivery fee - which seems to be around £30.00. You will then be asked to choose a delivery time - I had no problem with this - my cooker was delivered within the specified time frame.
A lot of the items on here don't come in a box but they are securely wrapped. My cooker was covered in bubble wrap and not having a box was actually an advantage for me because it meant that I didn't have to dispose of a lot of cardboard.
Overall I'd say that the Comet Auction site is good, but you need to be picky when you're selecting an item to bid on. I think it could be easy to make a mistake, or bid on something that you don't really want, so make sure you're 100% before you attempt to win an auction.
Four out of five stars...
Buyers beware when you buy something on any AUCTION WEBSITE like COMET CLEARANCE, you do not have the same rights as buying on a non-auction website or in store. Before your purchase anything online make sure you carefully READ TERMS AND CONDITIONS! Take your time!
The best bet is buy in store. Face-to-face buying gives you more rights if you are unhappy with the product, have mitigating circumstances, find it cheaper elsewhere or just changed your mind!
Also with the Comet Clearance website products only have a 6 month Comet guarantee, no manufacture guarantee. Most of the so called deals on the website are not worth it, with most being less than 20% off the store price. Go to any electrical store buy the product BRAND NEW and negotiate a deal in store, it will save you from shedding pounds off your wallet at a later stage and you can speak to people face-to-face if there is an issue with the product.
ON COMET CLEARANCE YOU CANNOT CANCEL OR CHANGE YOUR MIND (even in mitigating circumstances) ONCE THE AUCTION IS OVER. IF YOU WIN ITS YOUR PRODUCT. I was told by Comet "you cannot cancel, the product will be delivered, it will be up to you to sell it on!". From reading other reviews something tells me AFTER DELIVERY if I have any issues with the product I will have yet another mountain to climb.
For me its a £500 lesson learnt, don't be lured by the thought of saving pounds on a clearance bargain, what you don't pay in cash, you will pay through frustration and aggravation.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS WHEN ONLINE AND AUCTION WEBSITE SHOPPING!! THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK! BEST TO BUY FACE-TO-FACE in any electrical store.
Never again. When they say items unboxed they mean it. Two ovens just wrapped in bubble wrap. Both caused injury. One badly dented with sharp edges the other full of GLASS. There is no sign as to where the glass has come from and not knowing i stuck my hand in and got cut and covered in glass splinters. Imagine if that glass had gone in my food. They have said they will collect the weekend and closed the enquiry, never mind about what damage it has done or even if i will be around at the weekend. At first i though service was brill but until your not happy the good service ends. I have found the oven 50 pound more on line but i would rather pay that 50 pounds than go through all that again.
i recently bought a Beko condenser dryer from the comet clearance site and i got a real bargin i had reserved this dryer instore at the price of £240 until somone told me to check the auction site. I looked at the website to see if they had the dryer i wanted and they did so i put in a bid of £97 and paid £25 delivery and an hour later i had the winning bid so i saved £203 on the original price it was a used and returned item but they damage was described it had scratched on the top but this did not bother me as the item was going in a cupboard i recieved the item a week after the auction ended and was delighted to see the the scratches were not even visible and it looked brand new. The dryer is best one i have ever had but i did do research on the dryer before i bought it. In future if i need anything electrical i will be checking this website first and have recommened comet clearance to friends and family
we bought a washer dryer candy cmd146 from clearance comet, 26/06/08,used/returned for £224 plus 29.99 delivery.trust me save the extra money and look online for a brand new one, try pricerunner.com 10 call outs later, we had had enough, they finally agreed to write the machine off, you are given a date about a week later 8am - 6pm sometimes they dont even bother to turn up. anyway the machine that we had was written off, or was it ?it is back on clearance comet now for £185.00 1 bid how do i know its the same one because you cannot buy that model anymore, and the bloke who took it left us the hose and all the scratches are exactly the same. well you might be lucky but i would advise against it!!! listing 114224552

Avoid this site like the plague!!!! they lie to u sell things that never worked in the first place then dont reimburse 4 things when they said they would thought i was getting a deal im worse off now than if id bought a brand new one i will NEVER purchase anything from comet again EVER...AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!!!
Beware, there is something not quite right here. I bid on and won a Bosch fridge - when it came it was completely the wrong model. Oh we listed it wrongly they said (lies, the damage report was NOT for the fridge delivered), all we can do is take it away. No offer of another, no first chance on the next one listed. Unhelpful in the extreme.Since I 'won' that bid three others have been sold there, all for higher prices. I have a feeling someone deliberately substituted my fridge and put the original back into the auction to acheive a higher price. I will be very very wary of using the site again, because if there is any kind of problem they simply don't want to know. They have no concept of customer service at all.Order No1272-7041590
This is an auction website for the electrical shop Comets clearance products such as TV's, dishwashers, cameras, laptops, and lots more. Though there are various product conditions which is why they are 'clearance', including new, boxed and end of line. Ex-display. Scratch and dents. Used and returned. or refurbished. However all the products are fully operational and come with a one year guarantee.
I bought a cooker and a fridge freezer from here 3 years ago when I first moved out of home. The items were exactly as described on the website. There is a product condition report to say if there is a dent, something missing, scratch or something else like no box, they will describe everything like where abouts the dent is and how big it is. In my case both my cooker and fridge freezer had dents in, they were exactly where they said they were and only 2 inches big at the most. You can't notice them as they are hidden and the products are still working 3 years later (touch wood!).
I got my products much cheaper, it even tells you what the rrp is on the auction so you know how much to bid up to. This website is free to use and you only have to pay if you win the auction. You pay your winning price plus p&p.
The delivery is quick and very reliable. There is plenty of communication. I do find that this website is more knowledgeable to people nowadays so you don't get as good a bargains as you used to.
I'd been looking for an oven for some time, and was really pleased when I came across this site.
I just wanted a bog standard oven to tide us over until we can afford to revamp the kitchen. I came across a Delonghi one, and did some research online as well as visit my local Comet before bidding.
The one I bid on was unboxed. I got it for £129 plus £29.95 delivery - still less than the £199 to £229 rrp.
It was supposed to arrive between 8am & 12pm. I received a call from the delivery men at 7.30am saying they'll be with me around 12. They then called back at about 11 to say it'll be closed to 1pm. Eventually it arrived at 3pm! However, I called Comet who duly refunded my delivery charge.
All in all I got an oven that was ex-display, still having the protective plastic around it, for £129 - a saving of between £70 & £100! I was also pleased with the Customer Service I received.
I'm now bidding on the Delonghi hob to match......
The first thing I should mention is that I have not actually made a purchase from this website, so at the moment I am not able to comment on after care and delivery etc. Instead I would like to make some observations based on my experience of 'watching' items and having made (unsuccessful) bids.
clearance-comet.co.uk works as an auction site, in a similar way to something like eBay, but without competition, as all the items are on sale from Comet. It is their way of shifting all their returned items and those that may have been damaged in transit, at a reduced price. In my experience the described damage is usually small, sometimes just a scratch, or a missing box, but you should be careful to read the 'item condition' in case anything major is noted.
You may enter a proxy bid, like on eBay, but unlike eBay you must enter a credit or debit card before you bid and payment will be taken immediately at the end of the auction if you are the winner. (At first I felt slightly irritated by this, but it does occur to me that if eBay did something similar it would discourage a lot of time wasters and as a seller it would have saved me loads of time and money!)
I consider myself to be a savvy consumer and I like to think that I make large-ish purchases at the lowest possible price. My current search for a new freezer has led me to this site, amongst others. First I spent time trawling price comparison and review sites and I have chosen the freezer that I want to buy. It is tall and frost free, in a graphite finish. Online prices vary between £315 and £569 (including delivery) - quite a range! At the lower end of this price range I think it represents excellent value for money.
I was really pleased to find my chosen freezer on Comet Clearance, with a scratch that would be easily hidden by the kitchen cabinet to the right of it. I made a bid that would give me a bit of a discount to take account of the scratch, also taking into account the delivery charge of £29.99. (This is, by the way, just about the highest delivery charge I have come across on electrical sites!)
I was outbid. I did this several more times, each time I was outbid. I am bemused by this, as it means that someone (several someones, at that) is paying typically £30 - £50 more than they have to for a freezer, and the one they are buying is damaged or imperfect in some way. They probably bragged about what a bargain they got. This is simply the result of lazy shopping - and falling for the whole 'discount' idea. Just because the full price in Comet is (for example) £499, doesn't mean it is everywhere. A quick price comparison can save you money and all the palaver of bidding too.
This is not to say I won't check the site again, I am sure that there are bargains to be had and I will compare with it in the future. For now though, I will buy my (perfect) freezer at a cheaper non-discounted price.
After moving in with my partner and leaving the luxuries of living with our parents and living on our own for the first time we both hit a problem....who was going to do the dishes? You may think with just 2 of us then it could be equally shared but no, my partner said he would only do the dishes if we had a dishwasher.... I was not keen and carried on washing up but coming home to a sink filled with plates and cold, smelly water was really starting to get on my nerves and after several arguments I found myself giving in to my partner and letting him get his own way and purchasing a dishwasher.
As I had set him a very limited budget I thought he would struggle and realise the true cost of purchasing one (he is a little ignorant to the cost of general household products and thinks everything we can afford!) until he returned home from work triumphant that he had grabbed a bargain from the Comet Clearance website.
*~*About Comet Clearance*~*
Comet Clearance auction website is part of Comet Group plc, which is the second largest electrical retailer in the UK.
All of the products that are featured at http://www.clearance-comet.co.uk/ are genuine products from Comet Stock, the main difference to the products being sold on the clearance website to those in the stores is that they are clearance products for a reason;
New, boxed and end of line items
Scratched and dented
Used and returned
All of the products are full operation and come with a comet 12 month warranty for peace of mind....a little more about that later.
*~*Items for sale*~*
On the website there are 3 main categories;
Kitchen and Home
This category contains items such as cookers, microwaves, built in hobs, built in ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, fridges, freezers and other kitchen and household products.
This category contains items such as hi-fi's, DVD players, DVD recorders, Cinema Surround Systems, televisions and more.
Computing and Phones
This is a section where you can purchase laptops, pcs, speakers and monitors.
The products within these 3 categories change regularly so it is worth visiting on a daily basis.
In order to use the website you will need to register with them for a login ID which will store all of your personal details allowing you to bid for the items listed on the site.

You will need to create a user ID and a password which will be required each time you visit the site to bid on an auction.
To register you have to have a valid email address so that your confirmation can be sent to you and you will also need to provide your full name, address and contact telephone numbers.
Before you can submit your registration you will also need to confirm you have read the terms and conditions of using the clearance website.
Once you are registered you will receive a confirmation email with your login details and you are then free to go and bid!

*~*Bidding for an item*~*
If you find an item on the site that you want to bid on simply select the item, it will describe the items condition such as boxed, unused. It will give you a break down on the bidding status such as the starting bid of £1 and the bidding increments e.g price increases every £20 along with the auction open date and time and closing date and time.
Underneath the product is a full description exactly the same to that displayed on the standard comet website ,so you have all of the product details to hand on the bidding page.
An example of a product I am watching now is a Samsung RS21WASM 20.1 CU.FT gross capacity frost free fridge freezer which retail at £799 and the auction price is currently £380 with 5 minutes left which is a real bargain at half the price!
If you don't want to bid until the last minute simply select to watch the item rather than bid and then revisit the item before the end of the auction to place your bid.
The shop prices are always displayed on the item description which ensures that you know that you are getting a bargain!!
To bid simply enter your maximum bid amount and this will be kept secret as the website will increase your bid in specified increments until you either win the auction or are outbid. If you are outbid you will receive an email to confirm this allowing you the opportunity to return to the auction with a higher bid.
I find that it is better to have a maximum bid in mind and place it as late as possible in the auction to increase your chances of winning.
*~*Winning the Item*~*
If you go on to win the item as we did with the dishwasher your offer will be final and will be accepted and the price will include VAT and the winning bid will then be taken from your credit/debit card, along with any additional costs applicable for delivery. It is important to remember that the credit/debit card that will be registered on your account is the address that products will need to be delivered.
The only payment methods accepted are Visa, Visa Delta, MasterCard, American Express, Solo and Maestro cards on winning bids on the auction site
Home delivery service is offered on all products.
For larger products including washing machine, refrigeration and large screen TV's, delivery is via Comet's own delivery fleet of over three hundred vehicles. Large product delivery charges are:
Regional: £24.95 delivered usually within 10 days
National: £29.95 delivered usually within 14 days
On the product page you can calculate delivery costs before bidding, by entering your postcode and whether you win 1 or 2 items the delivery charges remain separate due to the nature of the location that the different products may be coming from.
Smaller products are dispatched via Royal Mail Parcelforce and are delivered within 7 days for a charge of £7.95 and it is important to remember that a signature will be required.
You will receive a confirmation email to your stored email address confirming when your item has been dispatched and an estimated delivery date so that you can arrange to be in for delivery.
Many issues occur when making payments over the website and Comet has a very secure site that encrypts personal information to prevent hackers and misuse of this information.
*~*After sales Service*~*
The delivery of the product fell on my day off which meant that I would have to have it lifted into the house. When the delivery arrived one of the delivery men moved it round to the back of my house and left it just in front of the French doors, as there was quite a step into the kitchen through the doors, I was wondering how I was going to do this, thankfully one of the other delivery men lifted it inside for me.
I signed to accept delivery and quickly checked it over and waited for my partner to come home and fully inspect the item.
Installation is not included so my partner got straight onto that when he got home and within under an hour it was fitted and fully operational and he was gloating that he had done the washing up in less than a minute. Well his electric friend had.
We still have the item and it is going strong and gets used on a daily basis and I have to admit it is much more convenient than our lifestyle was before.
An aftersales service is provided and just before Christmas we found ourselves using the service when our dishwasher kept tripping the power supply. We phoned the dedicated after sales service line which tries to rectify the problem over the phone, as this could not be resolved with our product we had to book for an engineer to come in and investigate. My partner was not happy as it was a week before Christmas and he knew what would happen if it wasn't fixed.
The engineer was booked and a time slot assigned to us and he arrived promptly to look at our troubled product. Within a matter of minutes he had discovered that the product was with the element and that it need to be replaced, he checked the stock levels and saw that the item needed to be ordered and it soon looked as it we would be without our little dishwasher over Christmas and the engineer ordered the part and said he would be in contact to advise when the part was in stock and to organise a date to come in and complete the repair but said it would be likely to be in January so imagine our surprise when we were notified that the engineer would be back out 2 days later to repair the dishwasher just 2 days before Christmas Eve we were so pleased.
I really cannot fault the service from using the auction website and there is some kind of added security buying from a trusted company like Comet and knowing that you have got a warranty should anything go wrong.
Whenever we need to replace an item within the house we now find looking on the website our first port of call as the items are normally a lot better value than any other website or store that we have searched.
Avoid using Comet Clearance at all costs! I recently decided to purchase a widescreen television from them and am currently in the process of trying to cancel the order. First of all, after reading the website's front page I was under the impression that the only difference between a clearance item and a retail item is the condition of the item. However, the item I ordered did not include a remote and to purchase a replacement one would cost £49.99. My fault for not reading the product condition report first (although the product information did mention a remote control which was misleading). I was eventually told to wait 3 weeks for delivery and was overcharged by more than 100% of the item's price!
Anyway, I email both Comet and Comet Clearance but received no reply. I then called Comet and they told me to call 0141 336 5970. After calling several times, a lady eventually picked up. I have never spoken to anyone so rude and unhelpful in my life! She would interrupt my sentences so that I could not fully explain the situation and then she hung up on me. I tried calling back but with no success. I called Comet again and they instructed me to call their customer services line which I did. Again, I found myself speaking to someone completely unbothered about my situation - she simply requested the correct department to call me back.
Oooh, a long time since anyone added to this.
I have purchased a washing machine and an upright freezer from Clearance Comet in the past couple of years. Sure there is a dent, a scratch or missing instructionsbut the site tells you what you are getting. I paid £135 for a silver washing machine which B&Q reduced to £199 over a year later in a "Special purchase" promotion. I saved over £130 on the upright freezer. If the dent or scratch is at the side and you put the side next to another appliance or a drawer unit etc then you will never see it anyway.
Set your limit considering the delivery charge. Stick to the limit without getting carried away (competing with the idiots who can bid you higher than the original store price) and the effort is well worth it. If you want a quick purchase then avoid the auctions.
There are bargains to be had if you are patient but not greedy.
Just purchased a washing machine from Comet Clearance. Not going very well so far. Took a long time to be delivered (14 days). Now arrived and the item is faulty!
Phoned up and the best they can do is send an engineer round in 9 days.
All I want is a refund now - would rather just buy a new one for the hassle caused. Can't believe it takes so long.
I will update on this situation, but so far all I can say is AVOID! It wasn't even that much of a bargain!
have recently been trying to buy a few household items,to keep in with my better half? so i decided to give comet clearance a bash, the site is well laid out and isnt heavy on graphics or garish colours basically there is a fairly wide choice ,the same as a normal electrical store, although at certain times you have a wider choice than others. its a good idea to check out the details on your desired irem as some are scratched, dented,or just missing a box. you have to register to bid ,and also provide credit card details, you are informed by e-mail of any bid you place, acts as a receipt.and also informed by e-mail if you have been out bid, with a hyperlink so you can up your bid if you so wish. delivery is £23 approx for large items and £9.50 for smaller items ther is an andditional extra site accesed via postcode for ,extra items in your area also worth checking, lathough it sometimes turns out that some muppet psays abids about £20 lessthan full price ,seems to contradict the idea of a clearance site ,migth just as well wait for the january sales
