Limewire is a P2P file sharing programme that allows you to download music, videos, images etc. There used to be many of these sites floating around, however, this is the only one that I have come across which is free nowdays. Saying this, Limewire is an illegal site and the government are clamping down on these sites. I have known one person to receive a fine through their door for downloading on Limewire.
Considering this, Limewire is not worth the trouble.
The site has to be downloaded onto your computer, you can choose the basic version or Limewire Pro, I have never purchased Limewire Pro as it seems pointless. The Limewire icon is then downloaded onto your desktop for quick access and it opens up whenever you turn your computer on. How annoying!!
The site opens as a large search box, with a search bar at the top of the screen and a large empty space which fills up with the files available for download. You can also access you library to listen to the files that you have downloaded and to move them into, for example, you Itunes folder.
I find that it is difficult to find the music that you want on Limewire, I have been searching for Skindred songs for a couple of months and nothing seems to be coming up. Also, a lot of files turn out to be a virus or something completely different to what you wanted. However, if you do find the right file, the majority download very quickly and are usually very good quality.
The site itself tends to slow my laptop down drastically! I struggle to open anything else with the Limewire search engine open on my laptop and it freezes constantly.
Overall, I would say that the site is definately not worth the hassle it causes! If you only want 2 songs, you are better off buying the songs off Itunes. However, if you are downloading bulks of songs, this site could benefit you, I would not recommend downloading it though.
IN SUMMARY, WHAT IS IT FOR?
Limewire is a peer-to-peer file sharing programme, that is supported by many operating systems. It is designed so you can share pictures, video, and audio with friends. Baring in mind that you should only be sharing things that are not copyright protected - this is the problem.
WHAT DO THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE USE IT FOR?
Unfortunately, the majority of Limewire users are not sharing their own content, but steal copyrighted content, in particularly music. Limewire's lame attempt to stop this is displaying a message along the lines of "Please tick to confirm that you will not use Limewire to in any way breach the act of Copyright Infringement. So, thousands of users can simply tick that box, and then freely steal music with an extremely low chance of getting caught.
EFFECTS OF ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING.
Illegal downloading as dramatically decreased the sale of CD's, especially in music stores. This has assisted in the demise of the music store Zavvi, along with smaller music retailers. I am not saying illegal downloading is the direct cause, but it certainly hasn't helped.
Artists now receive less money for for their work, a long with the record companies, who are especially loosing out. It's like running into a doctor's surgery, and stealing lots of their equipment. I see no difference in that, and illegally downloading some music.
Of course, some boast that illegal downloading as assisted in the discovery of artists, as people are downloading a larger variety of music illegally, than they would if they were legal downloaders/buyers. I partly agree with this, although websites like MySpace can promote an artist in the same way, and without the theft side of things.
Another downside of using Limewire, is that a lot of files are corrupt with virus and similar such things. So feel free to take the risk, and end of recking your computer.
Why not use iTunes, and get a high quality AAC track for 79p, with album artwork?
Saying all this, Limewire is a very easy programme to use, and it does have good intent. It's easy to search for files, and they can simply be clicked to download. I can see how it is a good way for family and friends to share photos, videos, and such, although I'm afraid I cannot forgive the fact that is has been made so easy to steal content.
Limewire is one of the many p2p (peer 2 peer) file sharing networks and is quite similar to sites like Bearshare & Frostwire. Limewire was created in 2000 and since then it has grown a lot becoming one of the biggest and most well known file sharing networks in the world and is now available in around 31 languages. Limwire is a totally free service which I think can be used anywhere in the world and on any computer with an Internet connection. I believe there is a certain Limewire that you have to pay for which includes a quicker download speed or something along those lines but I personally use the free version which Im sure is the same as most people.
What Can I Download From Limewire:
I personally have only downloaded songs (audio) and films (video) and I have never had a problem with anything I have ever downloaded from here. The download speed for music is pretty quick, it doesnt take more than a few minutes per song and Limewire has a huge song database so you are sure to find the song you are looking for. The download time for Videos is a little longer but Ive found that this only takes a few hours for the film to finish downloading, but I guess that is all down to how fast your computers download speed is.
I cant comment on any of the other possible download categories because I have never used them but if they are anything like the audio and video categories they are extremely good.
Is It Easy To Navigate & Download:
When i first downloaded this program all I did was search for it on Google and it took me straight to the Limewire website, when you do this though make sure you click the free option and not the one you have to pay for!
Once you ahve the program it is very easy to use and navigate your way around. You simply click the category you want from the drop down menu eg Audio and then type in your song in the search box next to that. After that about a million results will come through in seconds and you click the one you want to download it.
When your results come up they will also have the length of the track, where you are downloading the track from and what quality the track is (excellent, good, poor.) and you decide which one you click on.
This site is really easy to find your way around and it is picked up really easily even if you ahve never used it before.
Once your track is downloaded it will be automatically sent to a document folder on your desktop: Limewire: Saved and all your tracks go there straight away but after that you can move them around as you wish.
Viruses: I personally have never had a virus caused by Limewire but I have heard and read that a hell of a lot of people have downloaded a file that unfortunately has had a virus attached to it which obviously is a massive negative. But if you have a virus protection program on your computer this shouldnt cause to much of a problem for you.
Its Illegal: Obviously this is probably the main worry for people who want to use this site but dont want to break the law. Ive been using this site for years though and Ive never been carted off to prison so Im not sure that this is the main issue for the law right now. It doesnt bother me personally but I know that will be a very off putting point for some people.
This program is a great way to get the music onto your phones or Ipods without having to spend a penny on them which in today's current economic climate can only be a good thing in my opinion. I personally love this site and I will continue using it for as long as it's available but I say to other people, download ate your own risks. There is no such thing as a free lunch so they say.

How on God's earth has this not been shutdown? Limewire is a P2P (peer to peer/ person to person) file sharing network. The program itself is not illegal to use but the second you engage in downloading something you are breaking the law. Lime wire is nutorius for being jam packed with viruses and files often containing explict content (not just in songs) I have only used liimewire once and i will say now, never ever again. It was recomended to me by a friend as he said "yeah you can get songs for free and stuff" so naturaly i had to scope it out. The interface of the program itself is pretty well laid out with the search bar across the top and the catogory selection drop-down menu right next to it. I can see why people use limewire but for me, its a waste of time and really isnt worth breaking the law just to save 56p (cost of a useual song from itunes) in my opinion, if you cant afford a song or movie. Wait. Dont turn to illegal downloads.
''limewire limewire limewire'' I have had the free version of limewire for ages now, but never really used it and just carried on buying the CD'S to upload to my ipod but i thought i would give it ago recently. At first it was amazing and i couldn't stop downloading the odd songs i wanted - never mind it being illegal! But now it's hell and annoys me so much, the songs never downlaod and if they do i get a virus (despite all my anti-virus programmes) now i guess thanks to limewire my laptop runs so slow, it's a joke! I deffinately understand why limewire is illegal now, fab at the start but alot of hassel afterwards. Now for the sake of a few songs i either just listen to them on youtube or buy the CD if i am interested in the artist. I highly suggest even though limewire is extreamly attractive for many reasons and i understand why you would want it (because i have been there and done that!), a main reason being it's free, don't fall for it...because after all when are free things ever that good? xxx
Limewire- The little Devil
Limewire was released in the year 2000 and is written in Java form. This is a file sharing program much like bear share and I have heard that this is illegal. It is available in 31 languages which is good- shame about everything else.
When you visit the Limewire website you have an option whether you want to pay for the better download or download the free version which is actually quite good.
You can download songs, films and other files. You can actually find most things you are looking for, unless the song/film has not been released then you will struggle!
I stopped using this a while ago after my computer got a virus from this. I was angry and vowed that I would pay for my songs from there after.
I also thought it was a little harsh on artists/bands that produced songs in able to earn a living and some people are sharing them for free.
Cd's have seen a decline in the past few years since Mp3's have been on the rise, so Limewire has become very popular!
I now think this is a very wrong way to go about downloading songs- it gives viruses and cannot be good for computers and laptops.
You never know what you are downloading and it could have come from anywhere. The police can track users of this application and Bit Torrent and I have known people to get warnings and also fines!
The songs download fast but most have either been recorded or are off albums. When I used download songs and films I used to delete my library straight after as I didn't like to encourage this. I have now found a website through university where you can download songs without it being illegal.
We are meant to promote our artists not steal their potential money. 3/5!
If you want an illegal and unsafe way to download music then here's your program. As most of you know, the government is trying to clam down on programs like this and is starting to introduce punishments to people who constantly use them, like internet banning.
You really do have to know what you are doing when downloading from places like this and you have to know what items are likely to have viruses in them because there are a lot of them out there.
If you what you are doing and you know what looks like a virus you will get along just fine with this program.
Limewire has most of what you are looking for and 99% of the time you will get it. There are very fast download speeds on the free version but I haven't tried to pro version so I can't tell you what that's like, can't imagine it will be worth the money.
The Limewire library is very well laid out and you can easily find the songs you have downloaded and transfer them to another library like ITunes or move them over to your music device.
Like I said before, this is an illegal way to download songs and other things and I don't really think its right that DooYoo accept reviews for illegal stuff.
But doesn't stop me telling you that it is a very good way of downloading music for free and I haven't used another program that is any better than this one.
This software can be installed on your PC so you can share your own files, music with other users of the program. It is very dangerous and has a massive issue with viruses on the program so you need to be really careful and have a good firewall installed before using the program or else you are risking a big chance of landing a virus from here.
Last month I decided to have a search on here for some downloads and found many people sharing the files. When I clicked on them though my computer automatically recognized them as viruses! Out of 100 links to get it from about 10 were safe while the others were not working at all and some were identified as trojans!
The next thing I did was look for some music and found some Eminem music I wanted to listen to. After downloading the music to my big shock it was not even the right track! Some people actually put fake names on and put different songs just for the sake of wasting your time. I no longer will use Limewire for music after this, there are just too many time wasters and idiots who mess about with the program.
Limewire has no security really if you use it and it affects your computer. Rather use other programs because the amount of fake stuff on Limewire has just gone over the top. You think you are downloading one thing but you be downloading something else HOW GREAT!
Limewire is one of many free peer to peer (p2p), file sharing networks. It launched in 2000, became one of the biggest p2p networks on the world and is now available on 31 languages. It works when people seed files over the internet and then you can download it from them. You can download music, videos, programs and images, nearly everything at absolutely no cost at all.
I first used Limewire so I could download songs to put on my iPod. It is great service because you can sync Limewire to your iTunes library. When you download a song it will automatically be added to you iTunes playlist. I find that they usually download fairly quickly and it doesn't usually take more than a couple of minutes per song. Since then I have also downloaded movies and programs, these however take a lot longer. Movies can take, with a good download speed, a few hours and the programs can take days.
Of course there are also many downsides to downloading all these files for free. You can end up paying a hefty fine as this isn't entirely legal. The Limewire program itself isn't illegal at all, it's the files that you download that are illegal due to copyright and such. Personally, I have been using this for months and have had no trouble. A way to ensure you don't get caught is to not share files yourself. If hundreds of people are downloading files from you it's likely you won't stay anonymous for long, so if you decide to use Limewire, disable file sharing. This can be done in the options menu. In the end there's still that small chance that you could get caught, so really it's up to you whether you want to risk it.
To download files on Limewire you simply type whatever you're looking for in the search bar. A list of search results will then come up. Then click the result that is most relevant to what you're looking for and it will start to download. Sometimes these files won't work or there something completely different to what it says. This however is rare and as you learn to use Limewire, you will begin to recognise which files are genuine and which are not. When searching for files, videos especially, some adult content can appear in the results. If this bothers you, in the options menu you can enable an adult content filter.
One final problem with Limewire is viruses. Many people complain about the viruses they get when downloading files. Strangely I haven't had any viruses yet and I have been using this software for months. Maybe I have just been lucky but if you have a good virus protection program it won't be any trouble to get rid of them.
There is a premium version of Limewire that claims it will give you faster downloads and safer search results. I however wouldn't pay for a p2p program and the basic free version works just fine. The downloads are plenty fast enough. Your download speed will however vary according to your internet service and computer.
Other p2p programs include Bittorrent, Bearshare, utorrent, Kazaa and Frostwire, the list is endless. I Haven't used all of these programs so I can't fairly say that Limewire is the best however Limewire is the world's fastest p2p sharing network so using Limewire is tempting. I have also had no problems with it at all so I don't see any reason to try other networks.
Overall Limewire offers fast downloads for nearly any file at no cost. However there are problems with viruses, and the copyright can land you with a big fine, however this is the same for any p2p network. It is a simple piece of software with a great layout and it won't take you very long to learn how to use it.
Thanks for reading :)
Lime wire is a good way to get free music, but you must have good security on your PC as limewire is full of viruses and other harmful things to your computer.
It is very simple and easy how you search for music and videos, If you don't want a specific song you can pick a genre and browse throw the songs in that category which i found very simple and fun to do.
Once you have downloaded the songs that you want, you can then put them into itunes and put the songs onto your ipod, mobile phone and other music or video devices you may have.
In my opinion limewire isn't that good, i used them for about 3 months and by the end i had 57 infected items on my laptop which i had to remove, if your looking for free music i suggest a safe and reliable site like frostwire and spotify.
Limewire is a very useful piece of software that is used in many different countries.
It is a very useful file sharing software that allows you to download any piece of music that you have ever wanted for free!
Not only can you download music you can also download games, videos and many other things that come as software. This means that you can get any old or new movie that you could ever want.
Limewire is free to download and is perfectly safe to install. Just install it, open it and start searching for all the music you have ever wanted. Be careful though as some files may contain viruses but limewire is working hard to irradicate any files that they deem as unsafe.
I have had a very good experience with Limewire and have never had any problems with downloading anything and also i have never had any viruses or attacks to my comeputer.
I have downloaded multiple movies and music tracks and they have all been clean and of very good quality.
Overall limewire is a brilliant program that i use everyday for music downloads. So to start on your way to getting all the music you want for free simply type limewire into your search engine and start downloading! VERY GOOD PROGRAM!!!
LimeWire has caused a lot of controversy over the years for a number of different reasons, illegal content, spyware, hackers, viruses, you name it, LimeWire has been accused of it!
So, with this in mind let's begin to use LimeWire anyways! First things first though, you need to proceed with caution!
The interface of LimeWire through every version of its history has been simple and easy to use, this of course is good! When you search for the likes of a mp3 song, you get a list of details that you can look at and change such as Name, Type, Size and Bit Rate. If used correctly, this is the easiest way of preventing yourself from downloading a virus, how? Read on.
Basically no matter what you search for, results come up which are infiltrators and if downloaded, are likely to spread a virus across your system, so ENSURE YOU HAVE GOOD PROTECTION! I use McAfee. How can you tell if the song you are about to download is a virus or legit? Well, it is pretty simple if you use your head. When looking at it, does it have the following details: bit rate, length, believable file size (usually around 3,000 - 6,000kb)? Usually if the answer is no to any of these, stay away from downloading!
Basically, if you know what you are looking for, and know the approximate length of the song, LimeWire is pretty safe to use. If not...stick to iTunes and legal downloading!
Limewire is a file sharing form of software that can be used to download mp3's and video's etc for your iPod or general multimedia colelction.
There is no doubt that it has a wide variety of resoruces and it is almost certain to have any song available to download that you may desire. For games and video's however I have found the selection to be rather more selective.
It is very easy to use and the setup and installation is easy to follow and self explanatory. It does offer fast downloads which is a major advantage when downloading files. It must be said that when files are downloaded I would recommend doing a virus scan. For music it is very unlikely and hardly ever has a virus, however for software it is more likely.
Limewire even offers a built in feature with iTunes which makes it possible for all of the downloaded music to be transported to your iTunes library and eventually your iPod. This is a very good feature and it makes syncronising with your iPod easy.
I think that it is for many people a valuable asset to their iPod and offers very good features. There is a premium version of limewire which claims to have faster downloads and so may be worth upgrading to if you liked it. There is only a few features that are extra and so I don't really think that it is worth it.
I hope this was useful and thank you for reading!
Limewire, a free peer-to-peer, p2p, file sharing site, with a lot of plus points, also a lot of negatives.
Limewire is a downloadable program that enables people to share music, video and other program files across the internet, for absolutely nothing. The program is free and, if you want, there is a faster, safer premium version for a cost, but if you are going to se this program, use the free one.
I'm sure you will have heard that this process is illegal and could make you end up paying out huge fines, on the amount of songs/things you download. If you are worried that this may, possibly, happen to you, I would advise that you do not use this program, but I use it none the less, and yes I know its wrong to.
The program itself is easy to use, the search bar is on the left hand side, with all of the necessary criteria; such as file type, name...., on it. The site finds all of the files with a match to this criteria, but BEWARE, some of these files are viruses, but as you use Limewire regularly, a will be able to determine which ones are viruses, normally the ones with lower case, and for music, no bit rate. I recommend this program, but it is very important to have a firewall and anti-virus software installed, and to scan all of the incoming files, due to this "threat" of viruses, but after using the program a couple of weeks, you should be able to work out what is what, if you have half a brain cell (I did it, so you should be able to!)
As far as download speeds go, it all depends on your internet connection, and mine is average at best, but still copes with all my download needs, music mainly.
One thing I must add is, well, adult content. There is a mountain of adult content on the videos section of the program, so if you have teenagers using Limewire, be sure to see what they download (most of the adult content has viruses on them anyway, I would imagine.)
Limewire, the fastest p2p site on the net, tempting isn't it?.....
Thanks for reading
LimeWire is a file sharing network which is used by millions all over the world to download music, videos and pictures.
LimeWire was first released back in 2000 & since then has become one of the biggest file sharing networks on the planet, it's available in 31 languages.
LimeWire is capable of running on any computer whether it be Windows or Mac & is extremely simple to download. Simply type in Limewire on google then click on the link provided which will forward you to their website. Downloading Limewire only takes a minute or two & during the downloading process you are asked where you want your music to be saved, this is so if you have downloaded music from another place like iTunes you may want your Limewire music to go in the same folder. You simply find the folder you want & double click, this means that you wont have to be looking for your music for ages because it's saved in a completely different file.
One of the great things about Limewire is that you can sync it to your iTunes library so everything you download from Limewire will go straight into your iTunes library when you request it to be. This took me a while to figure out how to do when I first got iTunes but it only takes a minute when you know how & I now do it automatically without even thinking. When on iTunes you simply go to file, then click 'add folder to library' there is an option to add a single file to your library but this can be very time consuming if you have a lot of music as it means that you will have to sift through all your tracks just to find a certain song whereas if you select add folder this will import any new music in the folder even if it's just one song.
LimeWire isn't just for downloading music, you have the option to download programmes as well such as Windows or Mac programmes that otherwise you may have to pay for on their respective websites. I think this is a nice touch however I would never download a programme from LimeWire as you run the risk of viruses. If you're going to use LimeWire on a regular basis, no matter what you're planning on downloading you will need to make sure you have a firewall installed in your computer, I currently use AVG Free on my laptop & it works wonders, it scans everything I download & if it detects a virus it will be removed automatically. This really is the only way to guarantee that your computer wont get infected because if you don't have a firewall installed it's almost inevitable that your computer will contract viruses & these can have minor to major consequences for you. It can start on the minor scale from things like freezing & pop ups to the major end of the scale where you could become a victim of identity fraud so it's important you're aware of your security settings before downloading anything.
Another great thing about LimeWire is the speed that things download, this ultimately will depend on your internet connection but if you have a good one & you choose a file with enough servers then your file will download in no time. The files will then automatically be in your chosen file(s) for you to do what you wish with them. On LimeWire you have the capabilities to download multiple files at once, when you reach the maximum which I believe is about 7 files at once then the ones after will be put in a queue therefore as soon as one thing finishes downloading the next one will start & so on. This is a really quick & easy thing to do things as it means you don't have to wait around until one things finished downloading so you can select the next thing, if they're queued you can just select them all at once, go make yourself a cup of tea & wait for them to finish downloading!
The layout of LimeWire is incredibly simple, on the left hand side you will see your search options, this enables you to choose which type of file you wish to download. If you're looking to download music which is what LimeWire is mainly used for you click on Audio, then you have the option to enter a song name, artist name & album name or of course for a more defined search you can enter all three. You also have the option to select which style of music you're looking for however this option is a bit redundant in my case as I tend to just enter the names or artists, songs & albums. Upon entering your information & clicking search, depending on what you've entered you will get a list of songs to download. If you get a list of 100 songs which are all the same then the best bet would be to click on the one right at the top as this will be the one with the most servers. Servers are really just people like you & me who have previously downloaded the track & have decided to share it with everyone else, the more servers available, the faster your download will be. When downloading music or anything you download you will be given an option of whether or not you want to share your files with other LimeWire users, personally I don't share mine because I've heard it's safer not to but there's no set rule that everyone must follow so it's up to the individual user.
When first using LimeWire it can look very daunting however the layout is extremely simple to use & you'll get used to it after 10 minutes of use. There are however a lot of buttons that you can click on, this can be a bit off-putting but to be honest most of them don't need to be used anyway, the only things I use is the search & download buttons, the rest I simply ignore.
I think I forgot to mention the best thing about LimeWire... it's completely free! For those of you that don't like paying for music on iTunes then LimeWire is an invaluable application for you. However there is a LimeWire download that you pay for so when you download LimeWire be very careful that you're clicking on the free version as I think the other one is about £30 a year or something similar, not a lot but why pay when you can get the equivalent for free! When downloading LimeWire will try to pressure you into downloading the 'Pro' version which is the one you pay for, they tell you about all the added benefits but when you think about it logically the only reason you're downloading LimeWire is because you want to have the ability to download free files which is exactly what the free version does so don't let them persuade you otherwise.
One of the bad things about LimeWire, besides the viruses is that when you're downloading a song sometimes (rarely) they will not play or it'll end up being something completely different to what you thought it would be i.e. you could be trying to download Eminem & end up with Girls Aloud! However when you've been using LimeWire for a while you'll become aware of which files are genuine and which aren't and even if it does happen on the odd occasion, yes it's annoying but it's not something that would put me off using LimeWire. Another thing I should add is that if you're planning on using LimeWire to download films or pictures then be careful because there's a lot of 'adult content' on LimeWire & I don't think there's any way of preventing it so if parents are going to let their children use LimeWire then I suggest you monitor what they're downloading as there's some very strong stuff on LimeWire.
Overall I would highly recommend LimeWire to anyone who objects to shelling out on iTunes as it can be quite expensive if you download a lot of music. LimeWire is incredibly simple to use, I've used it for about 3 or 4 years now & have had no problems whatsoever, it's really easy to get used to. The only thing I will say is check your firewall before you begin downloading as it's better to be safe than sorry!
I better just add that Limewire is illegal, I don't use it anymore as it's illegal, if you want to download music I suggest using iTunes.
LimeWire is a fast, easy-to-use file sharing program that contains no spyware, adware or other bundled software. Compatible with all major platforms and running over the Gnutella network, LimeWire's open source code, is freely available to the public and developed in part by a devoted programmer community.
