      Disadvantages

      • "Not as regulated"

Love the bidding but the regulation / customer service is poor

      What is it?

Ebay is an online auction and selling site, where you can put anything up for sale, and buy virtually anything too. The company does not sell its own products, meaning they are just sold by other individuals or small businesses.

      What do I think?

The biggest problem with Ebay is that it is simply not as a good as other similar services such as Amazon which is always going to be a massive problem for it, and potentially for you as the customer. The fact that Ebay does not sell its own products and basically doesn't have any say in the selling means that it is not very regulated and so it is more risky buying from Ebay than other companies. If you have a problem with something you've ordered then it can be incredibly difficult to get your money back. The customer service is not particularly fast or helpful, and a lot of the time they just tell you to contact the seller as if you haven't tried that.

However it does have a great range of products and again is very competitively priced, which is a big bonus. I think it's great that you can bid on products which helps you to get great bargains, though this does mean you have to keep a keen eye on Ebay which can be quite time consuming. It also has more random products, as a result of less regulations and more personal sellers, which can be good if you are trying to find something a little different.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Worth using, but with some caution

Ebay is a great website to use to sell your unwanted things, and to buy things that you might find tricky to get elsewhere. However, there are some important things to bear in mind which I have learned through my own bad experience.

Ebay is really simple and clear with a good user interface. It has a ratings system so buyers and sellers can review each other and this helps foster confidence.

      Buying:

When buying off ebay, it's important to read the product description carefully as sometimes things aren't what you would expect. It is also a good idea to read the seller's rating to make sure that others have had a good experience.

Be sure to check the postage options before you bid. Once you bid you are committing to buy and you don't want to be stung with unreasonable postages charges.

If buying a new item, I would recommend checking both ebay and Amazon before making a purchase so you know you're getting the best deal.

      Selling:

Selling on ebay is a bit complicated and I have had some bad experiences with people claiming not to have received my products. If a person claims to not have received goods, you have to refund them then claim money back from the post office. Ebay does not automatically refund the whole amount, so in order to avoid cross customers you have to refund through PayPal.

In order to make it easier I would recommend the following:
      - Make sure you accurate describe your product
      - Pack well - use bubble wrap. You'd be amazed at what can get broken in the post
      - Only use tracked postage and keep the receipt. Otherwise it's your word against your buyers', and whilst most people are honest - some aren't and you could end up losing money.

Ebay links really seemlessly with PayPal too which makes the process easier. Overall, use with caution, but it is really worth using this site.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

eBay has a very good feedback system

I recently used Ebay and I never had any problems with buying. eBay has a very good feedback system which in fact favors buyers more, before buying click on the seller's id and see the feedbacks received and you can come to a conclusion about the seller from the feedbacks.....with the eBay feedback system, we sellers have to treat all buyers uniformly how big or the small the value of the product they buy. I do agree that eBay should launch a additional feature in each listing of showing feedbacks for that particular product.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

The best place to make money and find a bargain.

I have used Ebay for years to buy and sell items so thought it was about time I wrote a review.

Ebay is an online auction and selling site where you can buy and sell items domestically or as a business used or new.

Ebay is very simple to use whether using a phone, tablet, or computers. You fill in simple item description boxes, upload photos, write a description and choose how long you want an auction to last for, what price to start your item at, what postage people need to pay (with some restrictions) or whether you want a simple "buy it now" price where no bidding is involved. Once a sale is made you post the item out to the address given (make sure you get proof of postage!)

Buying on ebay is simple, you bid on the item you like, with the added option of putting forward a "maximum bid" which ebay will then bid for you on your behalf if anyone outbids you.

Ebay tries its best to protect the buyer and seller but there are a few instances where I have been left out of pocket with buying and selling, it doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it is disheartening and annoying if you are trying to make money, or wait for an item to arrive that you have your heart set on, but these things happen. Just make sure you are aware of all the buying and selling rules before you start!

      Advantages

      • "Cheap products"
      • "Can get your money back of anything goes wrong"
      • Good

      Disadvantages

      • "As a seller we have less rights"

The conclusion is eBay is very good and description says it all

Ebay is one of the best places to shop and not only shop but to sell. An advantage as an buyer good products can be found at a cheap price and ad vantage as a seller is that there are many customers available worldwide to buy products and literally you can sell anything on eBay. From phones to unwanted items. On thing I really like as an buyer is that when I have ever had a problem I would be able to sort out and there is an 100% chance of getting your money back and also eBay are very helpful and they will sort the problem out.

Like I said that an dis advantage is that as an seller sometimes you put at fault when it is not at fault and money can be lost due to buyers fault and we have to pay the consequences.

The fees are quite alright but due to the amount customers eBay can get there is no problem in paying the fee. If you want any extras you have to pay the fee but the main things are free just a few you might want as extras.

As an overall conclusion I would say eBay is one of the best sites and I am quite happy that there is a website like eBay where you can sell anything and get rid of things from your and the other point you buy things which are cheaper and a secure place to shop.

      Thank you

      • "wide choice of products"
      • "easy to buy and sell"

      Disadvantages

      • "high seller charges "

Huge choice and great fun but use with care.

I've used ebay for both buying and selling for a number of years and have always found it a great way of finding bargains as well as making a bit of money through sales. The site is easy to navigate and setting up an account is relatively straightforward.

Ebay's tie in with paypal means that you'll struggle to get the most out of the site if you don't have a paypal account set up but again they make this easy to do. More importantly it will also mean trusted by other users and have a level of protection should a transaction go wrong.

Ebay trading relies on trusted reviews from its users in order to judge how reliable a bidder/seller is. The more positive reviews you get the more trusted you'll become. Users who fail to pay or deliver on time risk getting a bad review and their rating dropping.

The choice of products available are huge and there are bargains to be had although it's not always the goldmine it once was. Like anything it pays to shop around. Seller's should also be mindful of ebay charges which could be hefty if you're selling expensive items. That said, it's still a fun and addictive way to buy and sell as long as you're careful.

      Advantages

      • "Fees too high"

      Sell Your Unwanted Items Here

I've been using the auction site Ebay for ten years or more but I've recently stopped using the site as much due to the changes they have made which I feel are not beneficial to sellers. Ebay is the best known and most commonly used auction site used by private sellers as well as brands. Sellers can list a number of items on the site including things like clothing, shoes, household items, collectibles, electrical items and more. I personally sell mostly clothes and I also occasionally purchase items.

As a buyer I have found most private sellers to be reliable and decent although I have had a few items which were not as described which I was able to get refunds on. Ebay seem to primarily protect the buyer more than the seller so if you have a problem with a purchase it can be very easy to sort out and receive a refund. If you use the Paypal payment system this also provides you with protection against any problems.

My main concern with the site has been as a seller. To list on Ebay you are required to pay fees. Fees can differ depending on how you wish to advertise your auction but in every case you have to pay a fee for selling the item. These fees have gradually risen over the years. The site have also started listing a number of fees for different aspects of the listing which it's difficult to calculate. You now have to pay a fee of whatever price you state as your postage cost! The most ridiculous thing about this is that Ebay try and suggest a cost for you during the auction set-up. The price they state always only just covers the actual posting cost (and not the packaging costs) and then you have to remember they will get a chunk of this too! So you can actually end up getting much less than it actually costs to send your item. Not only this but Paypal (the method by which most buyers pay you) also has their own charges for using the site and these have risen dramatically. It's very difficult to make much money on the site nowadays and doesn't seem worth the time and effort.

I recently sold an item and received an email saying I had been automatically enrolled in their 'Global shipping Program' and that I had to send the item to a centre in the UK where they would then post it abroad. The lack of detailed information about this was astonishing to me. I had no idea what to do or how to do it! The site simply seems focused on making money rather than assisting their sellers. I feel the site is no longer very profitable to smaller sellers and the larger brands seem to taken over the site which I feel is shame. Although I will continue to use the site I am selling and buying much less.

      • "Good customer service"
      • "Great prices"

      Disadvantages

      • "Some unreliable sellers"

      Wide marketplace with stunning deals

I am a Ebay and Amazon member for years now but as time went I found out that I am shopping more and more on Ebay than Amazon. The main reason is the pricing. In my spare time a do a lot of testing of various electronic products and when I test them I resell them again on Ebay. It is few weeks ago when i found a brand new HP chromebook on Ebay £40 cheaper than on Amazon.

Great thing what Ebay does, especially for my testings, are Auctions. You can buy used or brand new products (from cosmetics, clothes to electronics) for starting price as little as £0.99. The auction is time limited (it can vary from 3 to over 20 days). I personally, when searching for product, searching for Auctions that are nearly ending and after I bid on that product. The concept is that the person with the highest bid wins. About a week ago I snapped a used Apple iPhone 4S in perfect condition for £25.00. Pretty cheap, right? I got the product in two days via post. I did on it few testings of some apps and put it again on Ebay market. I did not list it on the auction, but sold it yesterday for fixed price of £50. Thats a great deal, right? There is the saying that "Someones junk is someones treasure" and Ebay proves this 100%. You can buy there nearly anything - from a pencil to a villa in Spain.

But be cautious is still necessary. It happens to me twice that the seller did not send me the products. But after contacting Ebay customer service my problem was quickly resolved and my money credited back into my PayPal account. But I still advise to buy only from trusted sellers with good ratings and pay always via Credit card or PayPal and never by cash or cheque!

Ebay absolutely keeps my hobby moving and allows me to test a lot of products without spending horrible amount of money.

I will definitely keep buying and reselling on Ebay!

      Bargains To Be Had

Ebay is an online auction website, which I have used for both buying and selling in the past.

It is a fantastic site to use to sell your unwanted items, especially if you are having a clear out. The majority of the items I have listed on the site have sold, the old saying one man's junk is another mans treasure really is true when it comes to Ebay. All of my sales have been hassle free, I did have one buyer who didn't pay but you can't blame Ebay for other peoples actions. Ebay do have a dispute centre for things like this but I decided not to use and just relisted the item, as this is free to do.

The Ebay listing tool has been upgraded recently and it makes listing items really simple, you can even edit your pictures slightly using the image upload tool. This is a good feature as it allows you to crop your images so the items can be seen clearly and removes any unnecessary background.

It is also great for grabing a bargain, in particular clothing and hand bags which have hardly been used. I'm told by my Dad that it's also great for spare motorbike and car parts.

When buying from Ebay you should always go with a reputable seller, sellers are left feedback by other people who have purchased from them. Make sure you stay away from someone with consistently poor feedback.

There is an Ebay app, I think this is where Ebay needs to make some improvements. It would be useful if the app could send you a notification when you recieve a new message.

Another negative with Ebay is that they nearly always favour buyers in disputes, I haven't had first hand experience with this but have heard plenty of story's from friends.
